Claire Metson is an East Anglian Artist living in Great Bardfield, North Essex, working predominantly in oils and preferring to work ‘alla prima’. She is an expressive, intuitive painter inspired by light, nature and an inescapable attraction to big skies, landscapes and the sea in particular.
She works instinctively to reinterpret the scene or image, capturing the light of that moment and letting the paint and mark-making take over, with works often becoming more abstract. Not afraid to make bold brushstrokes, Claire often turns to a palette knife and her hands as the work progresses.
Her work is impressionistic with a contemporary feel.
Studying Languages, Art and History of Art in her last two years at school, this lead to an Art Foundation Degree at The Colchester School of Art and specialising in Ceramics & Textile Design.
When younger the demands of a busy family life channeled her creative eye into other avenues and she found a passion for Interior and Garden Design. Over the last ten years she has been able to enjoy more time painting, allowing her talent to develop and her eye for design is very much apparent.
